American, born 1967
Patrick Keesey’s oil paintings and drawings are explorations of the tension between seeing and mark making. Keesey’s seemingly frantic, nonrepresentational gestures are their own subject, his images records of their own creation that trace the movement of the artist’s eyes across the page. As he layers marks upon marks, the brushstrokes and lines often grow indistinct, forming a surface of varying densities and empty spaces and evoking the work and methods of Cy Twombly and Jackson Pollock.
