Hidden gems (or maybe not so hidden) for those who look carefully. As a collector for over 30 years, I have often found that you are most profoundly affected by artworks that surprise you, rather than those that you seek out. And this is particularly true at an art fair where you are bombarded by more visual stimulation than almost anyone can process. Here are a few online surprises that interest me and that I am looking forward to seeing in the flesh.

Mark Tansey, MYTH OF DEPTH II from Alan Koppel Gallery

What is the myth?

Julia Dault, Kissyface from Galerie Bob van Orsouw

Looks like an interesting young artist ... looking forward to seeing the whole booth.

Ryan Foerster, Untitled (2006-2013) from CLEARING

Curious about the process of this art-making.

Brian Calvin, Can With A Landscape (Robin) from Corvi-Mora

Classic example of this enigmatic young artist.

Craig Kauffman, Untitled Dish (Blue) from Danese

Light and Space, the new rage.

Dan Fischer, Mel Bochner from Derek Eller Gallery

One of my favorite facile draughtsmen on one of my favorite artists.

Karel Appel, Untitled (1958) from Die Galerie

After Arte Povera, Gutai, and Latin American Constructivism, how about CoBrA?

Desirée Holman, Aura, Paracelsus from Jessica Silverman Gallery

Looks like an interesting young artist from a really interesting gallery.

Alberto Burri, Combustione BL7 from Mazzoleni Galleria d'Arte

A perfect little gem by the Italian master.

Sergio Camargo, Untitled (1970) from Galeria Raquel Arnaud

A marvelous example of this Latin American master.

Fausto Melotti, Il carro dei rabdomanti from Galleria Repetto

A lovely small Melotti ... I have always loved his work.

Gert & Uwe Tobias, Untitled (GUT/M 2103/00) from Galerie Rodolphe Janssen

I have a soft spot for these artists.

Craig Kauffman, Untitled (1967) fromVivian Horan

A historic Craig Kauffman ... another Light and Space opportunity.

Robert Overby, Projected Space Between My Legs from Marc Selwyn Fine Art

I hear that there's a significant European museum interested in this overlooked American artist.
